“When a complex system is far from equilibrium, small islands of coherence in a sea of chaos have the capacity to shift the entire system to a higher order.” — Ilya Prigogine

and Sunrise Counseling Group
Amber Bodhani was born in Tierra Amarilla, a small rural community in northern New Mexico, where access to healthcare was so limited that the local physician practiced from his home. Growing up in northern New Mexico and southern Colorado, she developed a deep understanding of the unique strengths and challenges of the region.
She has witnessed firsthand the impacts of poverty, substance use, limited access to services, water scarcity, intergenerational trauma, family violence, and the lasting effects of multiple waves of colonization. At the same time, she has experienced the remarkable resilience, independence, loyalty, cultural richness, and perseverance that characterize the people of northern New Mexico.
Amber earned her Master’s degree in Counseling from Southwestern College in Santa Fe, where she received training in both traditional and holistic approaches to mental health. She founded Sunrise Counseling with the mission of increasing access to high-quality, compassionate mental health care for individuals, couples, and families throughout northern New Mexico.
Today, Sunrise Counseling serves communities across the region through both in-person and telehealth services. Amber remains committed to providing culturally responsive care that honors the lived experiences, values, and strengths of the people who call northern New Mexico home.
